Wider roads for Maasin, Sogod & Macrohon

July 1 - 7, 2017

MAASIN CITY – To address traffic congestion, the Department of Public Works and Highways field office here has kicked off P115 million pesos for widening of the national road in Southern Leyte.

District Engineer Ma. Margarita Junia said the road expansion will add 3.05 meters to both sides of highways in Maasin City, Macrohon and Sogod towns.

“Since we have already paved all national roads, the next job is to expand the road in anticipation of more vehicles passing major roads in Southern Leyte in the future,” Junia said.

The existing width of the national road is 6.10 meters. The over nine kilometer lane project, which started in May, is one of the top multi-million projects of the infrastructure agency with a budget of P115 million.

The highways department is set to finish the project in February next year.

Along with the expansion is the installation of safety devices such as chevron, guardrails, and warning signs to ensure safety and convenience among locals, travellers and motorists.
