Water Shortage (continued...)

MAASIN CITY - According to Maasin Water District Manager Nestor Geraldo they actually have two other sources of fresh water in Barangays Bato Dakaw and Nati but they needed P200,000 for a water pump to tap the water source and pipe it to its consumers.

He said at present the MWD is relying on the water springs at Barangays Canlitid, Batuan and San Jose.

Geraldo also admitted they were now rationing water in the city because of the lengthy summer drought. He added that they were giving priority to the Provincial hospital and Rural Health units because these facilities needed water most.

The MWD badly needs funds for its expansion program but is having difficulty getting loans because it cannot meet its loan payment obligations. (By MARK RIMAS)
