Toxic Toys and Xmas lights can kill

MAASIN CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry office is advising  Christmas shoppers here to examine the Christmas lights and children’s toys they buy carefully.

According to DTI’s Senior Trade Specialist Sandra Alcober only Christmas lights with Import Commodity Clearance stickers issued from 2009 to the present are allowed to be sold to consumers. These stickers are colored silver and in a laser like form which cannot be transferred to other products.

She said so far they had conducted  surprise inspections at Metro Hi-per Mall, NOVO, Prince, HM Marketing, J&F marketing and the Maasin Star.

As for children’s toys, she admitted they did not have the equipment or expertise to evaluate the toys themselves and would have to rely on the assistance of the Food and Drug Administration of the Department of Health. (By ANGELYN BOOK)
