Still no sign of missing diver

February 18 - 24, 2017

NAPANTAO (UPDATE) - Two weeks after he disappeared underwater, Philippine coast guard authorities have reported that there is still no trace of the 28-year-old American diver Max Quinn who was last seen diving at the Napantao Fish Sanctuary.

According to Lieutenant Commander Ferdinand Montermoso of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Eastern Visayas District, as of now, there is still a joint underwater operation with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) for the underwater search and retrieval operations.

The technical search team, which is composed of government and private dive squads, had been scouring the deep sea for weeks for up to a maximum depth of 60 meters.

“This is the second week of search operations. We have four technical divers from the PCG side and nine experienced divers from MDRRMC, who head the operations as of this moment,” Montermoso said.

The Napantao Marine Sanctuary is a popular tourist destination for local and international divers because of its amazing underwater coral wall, marine formations and exotic sea creatures.(By MARK L. RIMAS)
