Solon Creates Agri-Taskforce

MAASIN CITY – Congressman Roger G. Mercado has formed a small but cohesive Taskforce on Agricultural Enterprises.

In an exclusive interview with the Southern Leyte Times the solon said the taskforce would conduct a “Needs Assessment” that would provide him with accurate information on the actual state of agriculture in Southern Leyte.
He said this was essential because the information we now have seem to be contradicting reality.

The “Needs Assessment” he added would provide him with strategic information he needs to propose urgent policy changes in congress and enable him to channel government funds to areas where they are most needed.
He said the taskforce would also prepare an Action Plan on how he can address the problems identified in the team’s “Needs Assessment”

Mercado said the taskforce would be comprised of a small but effective staff comprised of the provincial heads of the Department of Science and Technolgy, TESDA, Provincial Agricultural Office, Philippine Coconut Authority, Southern Leyte State University and the congressman’s consultants for pecial projects.

The taskforce, he concluded, would meet every first Friday of the month at the Congressional District Office.

The congressman who is now in Manila touching base with the political leaders of the Benigno Aquino administration said he would continue focusing his attention and resources on the agricultural sector which is the backbone of Southern Leyte’s economy. (By RUEVIVAR M. REYES)
