Shallene's murder suspect transferred

December 10 - 16, 2016

MAASIN CITY - The primary suspect accused of raping and slaying 14-year-old, Maasin City High School student, Shallene Melorin Liwag, was transferred to the Regular Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) in Tanauan, Leyte last December 9, Friday.

The RRCY youth detention center is a facility that provides care and rehabilitation to minors under the age of 18. The minors detained in the facility are either being rehabilitated, undergoing intervention and diversion programs for a crime committed, or detained while awaiting court hearings.

The principal suspect, who was until recently one of the most wanted fugitives in the province, was charged for murder by Judge Daisy Gonzales, after he was reportedly pointed out by his alleged accomplices of raping and killing Liwag on July 19, 2015.

Police Senior Superintendent Warren De Leon disclosed that the suspect was transferred from the Maasin City Jail to the RRCY due to his age. De Leon also clarified that rumors that the accused was transferred because of the threats he received while he was still detained in the city police station were not true.(By MARK L.
