Save Mount Nacolod forest launched

 

SILAGO, SOUTHERN LEYTE - The Silago Municipal government, GIZ and the DENR regional office has vowed to conserve the rain forests of mount Nacolod in Silago Town.

According to DENR Regional Director Rogelio Trinidad Mount Nacolod which is the site where two frogs believed to be long extinct were found recently must be preserved and nurtured for future generations of our people.

Save Mount Nacolod forest launched An assessment which would provide decision makers a sound basis in the crafting of appropriate conservation measures was recently undertaken by the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau, the Flora and Fauna International, the National Museum of the Philippines and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.

The comprehensive biodiversity assessment of Mount Nacolod in Southern Leyte was presented last May 2 in Silago town.

The government and non-government agencies will be working hand-in-hand for the management and sustainability of the rain forests there.

Southern Leyte State University President Dr. Gloria Markines Reyes has also signified SLSU's intention to join the Mount Nacolod forest campaign.(By MARK RIMAS)
