Samaco to help MWD

MAASIN CITY – Here’s good news for water starved Maasinhons. Mayor Maloney Samaco has promised to financially assist the Maasin Water District (MWD) tap the Cag-nitoan and Guinsuhotan water springs to augment the fresh water needs of city dwellers. The city government’s assistance he told SLT would be in the form of water pipes and related supplies. Equally encouraging was his plan to build a seaport at barangay Caniwan which is a natural harbor and therefore protected from rough seas. He said the new site would attract more shipping since it is also closer to Bohol and Cebu.

“The major reason boats don’t want to use the Maasin Seaport is because it is difficult to dock there and requires an extra barrel of fuel to reach from Cebu city,” he told SLT. He said he was also glad that the “misinformation” campaign about the Maasin City College not being an accredited learning institution failed to dampen the enthusiasm of education hungry Maasinhons who have flocked in droves to enroll there. Enrollment has actually increased he enthused and they need a larger building to house the new enrollees in.

In a related development, we were informed by Irvin Cabales, the campaign manager of Mayoral Candidate Joy Lim Bungcaras of Saint Bernard that the manual counting of the votes at the Regional Trial Court in Sogod would start this July 15. The manual counting of the votes there was requested by Bungcaras and her party mates who claimed massive fraud in the May 10 elections. (By ANGIE BOOK)
