Rey Labao to fight for WBO Asia-Pacific title in China

LILOAN (December 30) -- Rey Labao will be making his second attempt to win the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific superfeatherweight title when he squares off against Yulio Moro of Indonesia this January 15, 2010 in Yinchuan, China.

Labao fought for the vacant WBO As-Pac 130lb. crown last July in Naga City, Cebu but lost a 12 round unanimous decision to Thailand’s Jesus Muzaka Singwancha. The title is once again vacant as Singwancha lost to Czar Amonsot last October in a ten round non-title lightweight contest held at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City.

The 25 year old Labao (17W (KO 12)-L 2) was born in Liloan, Southern Leyte and will be fighting overseas for the second time. In 2006, he lost on points to Hero Bando in Japan. Prior to the Singwancha loss, Labao has stopped four of his last five opponents.

His opponent, Moro has a record of 17 wins, 15 by KO with 5 losses. He won the Indonesia Professional Boxing Commission featherweight title last June with a twelve round unanimous decision win over Robert Keo Palue.

Promoter Sammy Gello-ani has confirmed the match-up via e-mail. Last November Bert Batawang, another boxer promoted by Gello-ani, won the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific light flyweight belt in Shandong, China against another Indonesian, Jack Amisa. (By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com)
