PROVINCIAL BOARD HIGHLIGHTS

Among the more interesting resolutions passed by the provincial board during its recent meeting were an ordinance granting a 20 percent discount for the burial of senior citizens at the Malitbog Memorial park. Another was the resolution requesting the National Historical Institute to conduct an evaluation of the old houses in Southern Leyte particularly the Casa Margarita of Malitbog for possible declaration as a cultural heritage house in the Philippines.

In infrastructure development the board has requested DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson to immediately implement the five bridge replacement project covered by the Spanish Bridge Fund.

To address the unemployment situation, the board approved the municipal ordinance of the Sangguniang Bayan of Malitbog, requiring all barangays there to establish a Barangay Employment Service Office.

In the critical area of public sanitation barangay Agay-ay , San Juan, has been allocated five thousand pesos for a comfort room courtesy of Board Member Daisy Gamale.(By MARK RIMAS)
