PedophilesAntonio M. Reyes

By Antonio M. Reyes

As a frequent guest of popular but out of the way places here I often see shabby looking foreigners sitting alone at a table waiting for someone. He is later joined by a young boy and girl who are accompanied by a pimp-looking companion and they later disappear inside one of the rooms. It doesn’t take a genius to conclude what’s happening there. It’s called child pornography in other countries, but here in the Philippines it’s a fact of life that we have learned to accept.

Its this type of visitors, we as responsible citizens, must discourage. For some of these characters have graced the police files of Ormoc City for suspected pedophilic activities. Many however are later released when they settle out of court with the victim’s parents for money.

We are wondering why the PNP and DSWD have not done anything about the activities of these scoundrels who treat their innocent victims like beasts, with no conscience, or mental capacity to recall the humiliation of being video-taped being raped and sodomized with the consent of their parents.

No Willy J; our number one tourists are not the ones who are interested in our scenic spots, but our poor young boys and girls who have to resort to prostitution for a living.

What is particularly alarming about this situation is the nonchalant attitude of our men folk regarding the problem. I’ve seen them at times even approach the DOMs and strike up a conversation and make them feel at home by saying:

“You like our women Joe. They are very pretty. But watch out they will take your money and you will end up a pauper.” I heard an acquaintance of mine actually say this to one DOM who had a young boy and girl with him and were heading towards the rooms for rent there.

We are reminding our law enforcers that the new rape law does not differentiate between acts of lasciviousness and rape. For as long as any object is inserted in an orifice of someone without that someone’s consent - it is considered rape. And since minors are too young to know the difference between the two, the sexual offenses inflicted on them by these scalawags is considered rape and they should be arrested and jailed for it.

Instead of the usual “buy bust operations” against small time drug pushers and users that our law enforcers conduct periodically to remind us that they are still on the job. Why don’t they arrest the DOMs who are now coming to Southern Leyte looking for easy victims they can molest without fear of being caught. This is anarchy at its finest.

My kuya Gene once told me that we are such renowned experts in chaos and anarchy that we should rename our country “The Repubic of Chaos” and our citizens as Chaosians to highlight this expertise.

I thought he was joking, but I’m now convinced he meant it. Amen?
