P253 daily wage rate is ridiculous

MAASIN CITY - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here says it will try to convince local business firm's to comply with the minimum wage it has set for employees to meet their daily expenses in the province according to its provincial Director Fe Norma Valuis.

Valuis said the P256 pesos a day minimum wage rate was fair and that business enterprises here could afford it. However businessmen who were interviewed by SLT claim the province's economy was to weak for such a wage increase. Yet given this situation they would still try to follow the DOLE's order but would have to lay off many of their employees.
