Outstanding Southern Leyteños 2017

June 24 - 30, 2017

SOUTHERN LEYTE – Seven Southern Leyteños will be receiving the highly coveted Outstanding Southern Leyteño Award (OSLA) as part of the province’s celebration during its 57th Founding Anniversary. The conferring of awards will be held at the Legislative Building on June 28, Wednesday afternoon, with Governor Damian G. Mercado to give the citations.

The annual presentation aims to recognize all Southern Leyteños who have achieved great things in their own fields and have shown distinguished honor and noble qualities and exemplary actions that have served the people and the province.

One of the awardees is Manolito Elle, who was hailed for his auditing services and rising to become “Partner” in the most prestigious professional services firm in the country, the Sycip, Gorres, Velayo and Co., (SGV). He is an expert on the accounting standards on Revenue Recognition, Employee Benefits and Audit Services. Also a recipient of the SGV Special Award in 2015, he was a honor student and placed 3rd in the CPA Board Examinations.

Amado Blanco for leading various major projects and engagements through innovative approaches for the sustainability of our marine ecosystem that earned him numerous national and international awards and recognition notably as Finalist (Innovation), the Ocean Awards 2017 and Zoological Society of London Exceptional Contribution Award 2017.

Meanwhile, LTC Sheillah Grace Vicente earns the distinction of being the First Female Instructor Pilot of the MD520 Military Gunship, the First Female Commander of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) Attack Squadron, the First Female
Commandant of PAF Non-Commissioned Officers School and the Commandant of the PAF Officers Candidate School.

Salvacion Tan Venus for her fair and balanced application of the Agrarian Law ensuing the speedy yet quality delivery of agrarian justice to the farmers and landowners; that consistently made her a recipient of numerous awards given by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and by the Department of Agrarian Reform Adjudication Board (DARAB).

Dr. Prose Ivy Yepes for her role not only as an educator but also as prime mover, convenor and facilitator of various activities in support of industry development in the province.

Perla Rizalina Maturan-Tayko for being awarded distinctively as Bagong Bayani Award in September 22, 2014 as professional, an employee land based, Overseas Filipino Worker for developing and using WHOLE BRAIN LITERACY as modality for “transformative learning & change.”

And Jose Kangleon Bantug, Sr, who was known for his painting and designing talents and, when it comes to public activities, he offered his services for free, same in designing the provincial seal.

Bar 3rd Topnotcher Atty. Fiona Cristy Lao was also cited in the field of academics. Lao’s achievement enthuses admiration and pride as well as inspiration to all the people of the province in general, and to the youth and students in particular.

Special Recognition Awards will also be conferred to Sal Andrei Lago for sports
(Tennis) accomplishment and Capt. Raulito Gono Tagoon for military service above and beyond the call of duty.(By MARK L. RIMAS)
