“Oplan Balik Eskwela” launched

June 3 - 9, 2017

Education (DepEd) is set to ensure the smooth and orderly resumption of classes this June 5 through Oplan Balik Eskwela (OBE), to be implemented during the first week of the school year.

According to DepEd School Division Dr. Superintendent Arturo Isip, the OBE aims to address the problems commonly encountered during this period. This is mainly focused on ensuring that students are properly enrolled and are able to attend school on the first day of classes.

“Students, parents, teachers and other concerned persons may file their complaints or concerns to our office,” the superintendent said in a press conference last May 26 (Friday).

To make sure that all school opening concerns will be addressed, the DepEd created a OBE Inter-Agency Task Force (OBE-IATF).

THE OBE-IATF is composed of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP);Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG);

Department of Health (DOH) Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH); Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD); Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative (SOLECO); Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA); and Philippine National Police (PNP).

Based on DEPED’s statistics, as of May 25, there were 79,818 number of enrollees for this academic school year, “72,342 enrolees in the public schools and 7,476 in private and local universities,” Isip said.

Superintendent Isip also highlighted the guidelines on the protection of children from abuse in school, violence, exploitation, discrimination, bullying and other forms of abuse or acts which are contrary to the department’s “Child Protection Policy.”(By MARK L. RIMAS)
