Ombudsman dismisses 2 officials

March 11 - 17, 2017

SAN FRANCISCO - The office of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has recently implemented the Ombudsman’s order for the dismissal of the town’s municipal accountant from holding public office last March 9.

According to provincial director Jesus Naquila, the municipal accountant Resurreccion Tangso and municipal treasurer Rosenda Bansig have been found guilty by the Ombudsman for allegedly violating the State Audit Code of the Philippines by the Commission on Audit (COA), after reportedly not following the COA guidelines and policies.

According to the DILG, the municipal accountant has reportedly processed a cash advance voucher, but that the transaction was not bonded, which, according to the DILG provincial director, is a violation of the COA policy.

The provincial director also added that the municipal treasurer’s dismissal order is to be served by the Bureau of Local Government Finance since local government treasurers are under the Department of Finance.

Naquila stated that there was an accessory penalty mentioned in the Ombudsman’s decision, but it is not clearly and specifically stated as to what extent.

Reports coming from the office of the Ombudsman claim that both municipal officials have already filed their respective motions for reconsideration, to seek for review and the reversal of the Ombudsman’s decision.(By MARK L. RIMAS)
