Oging 4th richest congressman in Eastern Visayas

QUEZON CITY - If we are to believe the 2011 Statement of Assets and Liabilities of the 13 congressmen of Eastern Visayas the richest by far among them is Leyte's Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez whose net worth was pegged at P474, 111, 941.

At second place was TV star Lucy Torres Gomez with a total net worth of P160,214,222. The third richest was Leyte Second District Representative Sergio Apostol with P 44,637,900 and at fourth place only P537,900 behind was Southern Leyte Congressman Roger G. Mercado.

The region's top notcher who is the president of the Philippine Constitution Association (PHILCONSA) owns real estate properties in various parts of the country and abroad and owns shares at Banco de Oro Universal one of the top five banks in the country.

Romualdez who is also a trustee of the Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Foundation and president of Don Orestes Romualdez Educational Foundation is a stockholder of several popular golf clubs, Swift Foods, Victoria Milling and other blue chip companies.

The net worth of the nine other congressmen of the region were Milagrosa Tan with P31,856,420, Ang Waray party-list Representative Neil Benedict Montejo with P19,690,000, Biliran Representative Rogelio Espina with P19,487,795, Leyte fifth district Representative Jose Carlos Cari with P17,620,000, Leyte third district Representative Andres Salvacio Jr. with P12,300,000, Northern Samar Representative Emil Ong with P7,870,600, and Samar first district Representative Mel Senen Sarmiento with P1,651,813.69.(By MARK RIMAS)
