New ship to ply Benit-Surigao

March 25 - 31, 2017

Benit Port, San Ricardo – Southwest Ferries will soon be plying the Southern Leyte to Surigao route with its brand new $11 million Japanese-made ship the M/V SWM Stella Del Mar.

The roll-on/roll off (Ro-Ro) vessel was recently delivered to the Philippines from its builders at Kegoya shipyard in Japan.

According to Southwest Ferries’ Arben Santos, the Stella Del Mar is one of five Ro-Ro vessels of the same design which was made from scratch with the country’s archipelagic waters in mind.

Maritime experts claim that the Stellar Del Mar can run at 13.5 knots and can accommodate 114 passengers in an air-conditioned “business class” cabin, 843 in economy class, 20 beds for drivers, and up to 19 passenger buses and two trucks in each voyage.(By MARK L. RIMAS)
