MOST SOUTHERN LEYTEÑOS PREFER CIVIL WEDDINGS

Most couples in Southern Leyte preferred civil rather than church weddings. By type of ceremony, marriages performed under civil rites showed the largest proportion with 363 or 81.2 percent. While Church rites comprised only 18.6 percent of the total or 83 marriages.

According to National Statistics Office surveys most men and women in Southern Leyte also prefer getting married at ages 25-29.

A total of 447 marriages in Southern Leyte were reported during the first quarter of 2012 or a decrease of 1.5 percent compared to the first quarter of last year. The month of February ecorded the highest number of marriages with 224 or 50.1 percent of the total marriages in the first quarter with January being the lowest with only 78 or 17.4 percent.(By MARK RIMAS)
