Modern Hospital to open in 2013

MAASIN CITY- Here’s good news for Southern Leytenos who fear getting sick and have to be brought to Tacloban city aboard a speeding ambulance or being carried aboard a Cokaliong vessel on a streacher for Cebu city for medical treatment.

According to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Jose Lito Trumata, barring any unforeseen developments, the new Provincial Hospital which will have a 200 bed capacity will be completed in late 2013.

The Level 4 hospital located in Barangay Dongon which is being funded by a P226 million loan from the Development Bank of
the Philippines will have modern medicalequipment like cat-scan, a toxic waste disposal facility, and ample space for parking.

The decision to relocate the provincial hospital to its new site was triggered by the fact that the current 100 bed Integrated Provincial Hospital (IPHO) was overcrowded, too near private houses, and had no parking space for vehicles. As the only consistent level 3 hospital in the region it also had to attend to patients from Matalom, Bato, Hilongos and as far as President Garcia in Bohol. (By ANTONIO M. REYES)
