Mishap in Panan-awan

VAN vs. TRUCK: A truck and a utility van figured in an accident along the national highway in barangay Panan-awan, Maasin City.

April 29 - May 5, 2017

PANAN-AWAN - More than 5 passengers, including two cops, onboard a HI-ACE Commuter van were hurt when their vehicle bound for Sogod town swerved suddenly after it hit a utility vehicle along the road’s curved portion in Panan-awan village on Wednesday afternoon, April 26.

As many as seven sustained minor injuries, with one seriously hurt, local police reported.

The victims were rushed to the Living Hope hospital for immediate medical treatment.

Investigation said that the driver of the utility vehicle accidentally over-lapsed to the other lane which caused to hit the van traversing from the opposite side of the road.

The vehicles occupied both lanes, forcing the other motorist to divert their vehicles to an alternate route to avoid collision.

The drivers of the ill-fated van and utilility vehicle were identified as 39-year old Owen Santillana and Rene Montero from Bontoc, Southern Leyte and Laray Borok, Ormoc City, respectively.

The victims of the mishap were identified as PO3 Roy Abejar, PO2 Elden Yumo, Robert Alande, Roan Mae Plaza and 19-year-old student from Saint Joseph College Rod Francis Narit. (By :DAHLIA ABIERA ORIT)
