Manny Villar invades "Gibo Country"

MAASIN CITY – Presidential front runner Senator Manny Villar visited the city last Saturday in his first sortie in perhaps the country’s last remaining provincial stronghold of Lakas-CMD candidate Gilberto Teodoro.

Villar whose helicopter landed at the city port shortly before 9 a.m. walked the short distance to city hall where he met with City Mayor Maloney Samaco. Among the topics they discussed was the Hispine Beetle infestation in the province which Villar was very concerned about.

He then proceeded to the new public market where he greeted shoppers and market vendors.

The senator then boarded his SUV at the bus terminal and proceeded to Café Romana, where he rested, before boarding his helicopter for Manila where he said he would watch the Pacquiao – Clottey fight on television.
Conspicuously absent during the senator’s visit were Congressman Roger Mercado, who is the Lakas-CMD campaign manager for Eastern Visayas and his brother the Governor who is an avid supporter of former Defense Secretary Teodoro.

Villar who is now in a dead heat with Liberal Party candidate Noynoy Aquino is considered by political pundits as the presidential front-runner because of his grass root political machinery. Aquino’s campaign in the province is being handled by Former Governor Rosette Lerias and Engineer Robert Castañares who is a member of the liberal Party. While Senator Villar’s is being managed by the Nationalist Party’s SP member Daisy Gamale. We tried to contact the brothers Mercado for their comments on the Villar visit but were informed they were in Barangay Dongon. (By ANTHONY KINGS)
