Macho!
By ANTONIO M. REYESAntonio M. Reyes

Last Friday I watched a very interesting interview with Jane Fonda, the artist, author of best selling books, and the largest selling aerobic video ever and anti-war advocate. She said several things that I can’t forget.

The first was her fear that if American leaders continued waging war against people who didn’t like them, they would become a third world country in the near future, since war was expensive and it was the American people who were financing it.

She said the current republican presidential candidates terrified her because they were warmongers, and believed that water boarding torture was okay, since they were at war and there were enemies everywhere. Fonda admitted she would vote for Barack Obama again but that she hoped he would strongly oppose US adventurism and fully support climate change amelioration projects and that a second term would give him that opportunity. Earth she said was our “only” home and if we don’t care for it, it won’t be worth living in.

She also said she agreed with the late Kathryn Hepburn (another woman’s lib advocate) who believed it was the woman who chose her man - and not the other way around. In other words, we men were not the hunters we thought we were, but the hunted.

All those years, that we thought we were the predators, we were actually the prey.

So this Christmas Season, let the machos of this world, admit to all an sundry what the word Macho really means, which is; MACHONURIN!
