Presidential Adviser on Legislative Affairs, Adelino Sitoy

Maasin-Bohol bridge pushed

December 3 - 9, 2016

If the resolution requesting a feasibility study on the proposed bridge in Maasin City with Bohol province is conducted and found feasible, Bohol province will just be one road trip away.

Presidential Adviser on Legislative Affairs, Adelino Sitoy, disclosed recently that they have been proposing a public-privatepartnership (PPP) project for the construction of bridges connecting Carlos P. Garcia town in Bohol to Maasin City in Southern Leyte province.

Among the projects proposed are bridges connecting Negros Oriental to Cebu, Cordova to Getafe town in Bohol.

According to the presidential adviser, President Rodrigo Duterte already approved the project but further referred the proposal to Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.

Currently, Sitoy said, they are still under negotiations with interested investors and contractors who wish to undertake the project.

“The road will bring a lot of benefits because travel will be faster. There will be a lot of passengers that can avail of this and transport of products will be cheaper,” said former Cordova mayor Adelino Sitoy.

He added that this will boost tourism and economy in the Visayas since several islands will already be connected.

The Neda Board, however, approved the 17.5 kilometer Bohol-Cebu Friendship Bridge after Duterte endorsed the project construction to the Chinese government for funding when he visited China in October, said Rep. Erico Aumentado of Bohol’s 2nd district.

According to Aumentado, a feasibility study and preengineering work could start as early as 2017 should the proposal be approved.(By MARK L. RIMAS)
