May 6 - 12, 2017

CAMP ALFREDO BANTUG – A police woman shooter from Hinundayan, Southern Leyte won the first Regional Director’s Cup shootout competition last April 27-28, outgunning other police officers from the different police stations in Eastern Visayas.

PO3 Grace Dojemio, who is currently assigned at the Hinundayan Police Station, was lauded for bringing pride and honour for the province.

The activity was held at LEYSA Firing Range, Kuta Kankabatu, San Jose, Tacloban City, Leyte, with Regional Director Police Chief Superintendent Elmer Beltejar hosting the shooting fest.

Meanwhile, the Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office team (SLPPO), together with Police Senior Superintendent Warren De Leon and Police Officer 3 Glenn Ryan Gaviola of Hinunangan municipal police station showed off their shooting skills and brought home three trophies.

The SLPPO Shooting Team got the 1st Runner-Up for the Team Category. PO3 Glenn Ryan Gaviola received the 1st Runner-Up award for the Individual Production Category, and Provincial Director PSSUPT Warren de Leon emerged as champion in the pistol category both in the standard and executive level.

De Leon said that it is important for police officers to continually hone their shooting skills, as it is useful when they find themselves in a shootout with criminals.

“It is important for the PNP officers to exercise proficiency and confidence in using their guns to avert criminals’ intent and protect the safety of the civilians,” De Leon said sighting some cases where civilians were harmed due to indecorous procedures. De Leon also said the local police here oftentimes practice their shooting skills at the PNP camp.(By MARK L. RIMAS)
