Local Oppsosition Hits "Dirty Tactics"

MANTAHAN, MAASIN CITY – “The administration party is throwing everything at us, including the kitchen sink. It isn’t fair but it shows we can win!”
An opposition candidate for the provincial board, who asked not to be quoted, because he was related to the Lakas-Kampi’s standard bearers claims their opponents are not playing fair.

“When we campaign in the villages,” he said “the barangay leaders tell us there is a blackout, so we can’t use our loudspeakers and have to shout to the crowds.

“And at night, we cannot hold rallies at the multi-purpose centers since its pitch black. But when we leave the village the lights miraculously go on again.”

He also told the Southern Leyte Times that they were being charged a fee for using the multi-purpose centers which he claimed were public property.

However Dodi Hernandez, the governor’s executive assistant denied these charges and said the opposition candidates had lost hope and were beginning to hallucinate.

He said “The truth is they are pursuing a negative campaign and maligning our standard bearers which Southern Leytenos do not like and are boycotting their rallies.”

Hernandez (a former ally of the Lerias family) added that the opposition would be lucky to win in Barangay Lonoy which is a Lerias bailiwick.
He also criticized the gutter politics being waged by former Congressman Aniceto Saludo who has been passing himself of as an international lawyer.

“The truth is,” he said “he (Saludo) flunked international law and two other subjects when he took the bar which he barely passed with a 75.6 average. While his opponent Congressman Roger Mercado obtained a weighted average of 82.76 percent.” (By ANTHONY KINGS)
