Liloan Election Hotspot?

The Philippine National Police in Eastern Visayas have assigned extra policemen to Liloan town where they expect possible election-related incidents during the May 10 elections.

The police force have been tasked to prevent the eruption of violence in these areas during and immediately after the elections said PNP-8 community relations Chief Senior Superintendent Manuel Cubillo.

“We want the conduct of the elections in some areas in Eastern Visayas to be as peaceful and orderly as possible. These policemen are now on standby and ready to be deployed to any of these areas,” Cubillo added.

The PNP-8 earlier identified at least 54 areas where election-related violence could happen due to either intense political rivalry among candidates, or the presence of armed men who were controlled by the politicians or were members of the New People’s Army. Twenty one of these areas are in Samar, 16 in Northern Samar, eight in Eastern Samar, six in Leyte, two in Biliran and Liloan, Southern Leyte.

However Vice Governor Mike Maamo assured us that Liloan was as peaceful as ever. (By: MARK RIMAS)
