K to 12 will cost P35 Billion

Maasin City alone needs 1,132 new desks for June opening

The DepEd's K to 12 program which simply means Kindergarten, six years of elementary education, four years of junior high school (grades 7 to 10) and additional two years of senior high school (grades 11 to 12) will cost taxpayers an additional 35 billion pesos a year.
This amount will be used to build new classrooms, procure books and chairs, and hire new new teachers.

To address this funding requirement the government will obtain loans from government and private banks and private partners who can donate through the adopt-a-school program in exchange for a 150 percent tax rebate for their contribution.

Based on the Basic Education Information System of the Maasin City Division the K to 12 program will need an additional 1,132 arm chairs for its kindergarten classes and 646 for its senior high school classes. The program will also need an additional 32 new classrooms.(By MARK RIMAS)
