Hindang's thriving monkey business

HINDANG TOWN, WESTERN LEYTE - Here's bad news for City Tourism Officer Royeno Segovia. The sleepy town of Hindang now has a thriving Caves and Wild monkey reserve on its foothills overlooking the sea complete with a Zipline from the mountaintop to its base.

According to the receptionist at its entrance the facility will also have other wild animals like snakes, mouse deer, wild boars, sea eagles and other animals endemic to the area.

She said the numerous monkeys which we saw hanging atop the trees would remain free to roam the forested area.

She added that "We want our people to become aware of our endangered local animals and birds so they can protect and not harm them."

The reserve which is managed by the Local Government Unit of Hindang only charges ten pesos per visitor and is open to the public seven days a week. (By RUEVIVAR "WOWIE" REYES)
