Guinsaogon Cairman Killed by Bomb

SOUTHERN LEYTE - Topping the list of crimes this week was the brutal assassination of Eglicerio Coquilla Bulagsac the barangay captain of Guinsaugon, Saint Bernard.

His wife Rosario who was also injured said her husband was killed by an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) which was hidden in a plastic rice container. The IED used was similar to but smaller than the ones used in the Middle East against American occupational forces.

Rosario said they had visited their rice field in Guinsaugon and had entered their makeshift house when her husband lefted the rice container which exploded in his face. She added that though injured they were able to run outside when another louder explosion blew up and incenerated the hut completely.

Both victims were rushed to the Anahawn District Hospital but her husband was declared dead on arrival.

Senior Inspector Brillante Billaoac believes the motive for Bulagsac’s murder was political since the fatality was an influential political figure in barangay Guinsaugon. The farming village which is located right below Mount Katibag made headlines worldwide when a mega landslide there buried the entire village and killed over 2000 people in 2006.
