Fisherman using power lights hit

MAASIN, City – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource is warning commercial fishermen from Ichon not to use powerful According to BFAR-Maasin chief Anecito Cortez "super lights" are a fishing device using halogen or metal halide bulbs which are powered by a battery and submerged into the sea water attached to an electric cable.

Although there is an existing city ordinance banning the use of this device Cortez admits they cannot implement it because they don't
have any speed boat and can only rely on "bantay dagats" who themselves don't have enough funds to fuel their basnigs with.

He told SLT that most of these illegal fishermen are from barangay Ichon, Macrohon and that their favorite fishing area for Bolinao were barangays Pasay, Maria Clara and Ibarra. He said these fishermen were using strong LED or "super lights" and fishermen from the coastal area of the city are comlights exceeding 18 watts and other super lighting devices within and beyond the municipal seawaters.plaining because they can't catch the schools of Bolinao which are attracted to the powerful lights of the Ichon fishing boats.(By MARK RIMAS)
