Europeans Help Padre Burgos kids

SAN ROQUE, PADRE BURGOS – Last May 27 a boatload of volunteers from Holland weighed anchor beside the Southern Leyte Divers Resort owned by Dr. and Mrs. Guenter Moss. The boat was loaded with school supplies and t-shirts for the less fortunate children of San Roque.

The group led by Eric Von Arand were part of the NGO Letsshare Foundation of Holland which raises money through the inter-net to help children in the Philippines.

Arand told SLT they wanted to make Letsshare Foundation the coolest website on the internet and this was why they included a lot of music and humor in their projects.

The Letsshare boat came from Cebu city to hold the charity event for the children of Barangay San Roque. Dr.Guenther Moss had volunteered his resort facility for the celebration which turned out to be a rousing success. The DJ Red Core, the president of Cebu Mix Club and the popular Dj Marvin P. were on board the vessel to help make the party a truly memorable event. The boat had its own generator, DJ set and sound and lighting system which it used for the beach party that lasted until early morning.

More than a hundred children attended the party which was complete with fireworks. The next morning they distributed school supplies from Holland donors and also gave away 500 Letsshare T-shirts to the children of San Roque. The gifts were given away by Letsshare volunteers who were dressed as Santa Claus and by their host Dr. Guenter Moss.

Anders said that San Nicolas was actually a Spanish holy man who gave away his money to help children a long time ago.

“In fact,” he added “San Nicolas was the original Santa Claus which the Coca Cola Bottling company turned into Santa Claus in America.” (By RUEVIVAR M. REYES)
