Earthquakes reported

December 17 - 23, 2016

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off Surigao del Norte early mor ning on December 20, Tuesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake's epicenter was located 14 kilometers west of Santa Monica, Surigao del Norte. The
quake struck at 4:44 a.m.The quake, which was tectonic in origin, struck at a depth of 48
kilometers.

Intensity IV was reported in Surigao City, Mayorga, Leyte, and San Juan, Southern Leyte.

Meanwhile, another 5.1 tremor was felt on December 22, around 11:02 am. Intensity 2 was reported in San Francisco, Southern Leyte.(By MARK L. RIMAS)
