Duterte's Php30 million for Limasawa port

January 28 - February 3, 2017

Here’s good news for Southern Leyteño residents, foreign and local tourists. The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) disclosed that the 2017 infrastructure projects of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration includes the proposal for the construction of the Limasawa port with P30 million pesos budget for the island’s tourism potential.

The local port infra-project proposal was included during the presentation by the DBM’s Secretary Benjamin Diokno.

According to Diokno, all the infra projects lined up this year will be accelerated and closely monitored through geo-tagging. Geo tagging is the process of adding geographical identification to various media such as pictures and videos that can help users tell the location of its content.

Governor Damian Mercado told SLT that they are proposing to the national government an additional budget of P20 million for the Limasawa port for its ultimate completion.

“The local government of Southern Leyte is prioritizing this project, to ensure that the port will be built before the 500th First Mass Anniversary in 2022, that would basically make history for the province,” Mercado said.

The construction of the port is expected to generate more income, jobs and improve tourism in the “Island of firsts.”(By MARK L. RIMAS)
