Duterte supports Aquino

April 8 - 14, 2017

Talavera, Nueva Ecija – It seems that Maasinhons really do have each other back, as Maasin-born President Rodrigo Roa Duterte showed his support for his fellow Maasinhon, National Food Authority Administrator Jason Aquino, as the president fired former Undersecretary Halmen Valdez because of a reported policy disagreement with Aquino regarding the importation of foreign rice into the country.

In front of farmers who attended the Harvest Festival in Talavera, Nueva Ecija, the President revealed he had dismissed an undersecretary because the official wanted to reverse the decision of NFA’s Aquino regarding his suspension order of rice importation.

During his speech, the President said the undersecretary favoured private rice importers more. “Kaya sabi ko kanina papunta ako dito, pa-landing sabi ko tawagan mo Malacañang, sabihin mo she’s fired (So on my way here I said, ‘Call Malacañang. Tell her she’s fired,” the president said.

“I will continue to fire people the moment, the first whiff. If I’ve become aware of it,” the President said in regards to corruption in public office.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol has confirmed that Valdez had been officially dismissed. The President has previously dismissed NIA Administrator Peter Laviña, BID commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles, and most recently DILG Secretary Ismael Sueno.(By MARK L.
