DepEd gears up for school opening

May 13 - 19, 2017

MAASIN CITY – The Department of Education is gearing up towards a safe opening of classes this June by making our local public schools conducive to learning through the launching of its Brigada Eskwela 2017 campaign set to start this May 15-20.

With the theme “Isang Deped, Isang Pamayanan, Isang Bayanihan para sa Handa at Ligtas na Paaralan,” Maasin City Schools Division Superintendent Mariza Magan urged education stakeholders to make our public school facilities safe and ready for students this June.

“Brigada Eskwela is a weeklong activity that exhibits the spirit of volunteerism and shared community responsibility in order to provide quality basic education to all learners,” Magan said in a press conference last May 8 at the Combado Learning Division.

According to the superintendent, all school facilities are ready except for the construction of the Manhilo Senior High building, which is expected to be completed this May.

“We already informed the Department of Public of Works and Highways (DPWH)
to hasten the completion of the building to cater to students this coming academic school year,” she added.

School heads will take the lead in their respective “Brigada Eskwela”, which includes tree planting and vegetable gardening to promote a clean and greener environment.

Magan also highlighted that taking part of the school repair is not mandatory nor a pre-requisite for parents to enable their children to be accommodated by the school.

“More so, the agency will not accept any solicitation, but donations are very much welcome,” Magan said.

To recognize the local schools that will effectively implement the program, the
DepEd will launch a Search for Brigada Eskwela Best Implementing Schools.(By MARK L. RIMAS)
