Dangerous "Saddle Point" to be lowered this year

MAASIN CITY – If plans push through the dangerously steep "Saddle Point" portion of the national road in Pintuyan Town will be lowered before Christmas.

This bit of good news was revealed by District Engineer Carlos Veloso during a recent press conference called by Congressman Roger Mercado.

Veloso assured participants of the Tri-Media affair that the DPWH had already allocated P 50 million for the project.

He said the upgrading of the highest portion of the road network would require leveling parts of the steep mountain's side so that travelers won't have to negotiate the treacherous Saddle Point.

Veloso said that aside from the numerous complaints of commuters they had also received a Resolution from the Provincial Board since the dangerous road was affecting business in Panaon Island and the Benit Ferry Terminal in San Ricardo which is only a 45 minute boat ride to Surigao.
