DPWH Junia suggests 2 alternative routes to help ease traffic

March 18 - 24, 2017

MAASIN CITY - To address the increase in vehicular traffic, the Department of Public Works and Highways – Southern Leyte District informed the press of two other possible solutions to help decongest traffic along Tomas Oppus and Ruperto Kangleon streets, aside from the proposed “coastal road.”

According to DPWH District Engr. Ma. Margarita Junia, the proposals include the widening of the current national roads or extending existing hillside roads.

In a press conference, Junia disclosed that all three proposals will still undergo a feasibility study which will be conducted by their road project experts and technical consultants.

“Whichever of the three options is found most feasible and economical by the technical team will be the project that we’ll push through,” Junia said.

Junia also said that the issues raised by local environmentalists in relation to reef and mangrove protection will also be considered by the DPWH and the feasibility team.(By MARK L. RIMAS)
