Crocodiles in the city

MAASIN SOUTHERN  LEYTE – Just when we thought it was safe to swim in our rivers and sea we learn that there are now 15 young  Salt Water Crocodiles at the Danao Forest Park.

According to Acting City Tourism Officer Royeno Segovia they now also have several species of wild birds like peacocks and of course ostriches. He told SLT that they expect the arrival of  Tigers and Lions this month.

The Salt Water Crocodiles which are 6 months old and are three feet long are being fed chicken, young unborn piglets and fish.

Salt water crocodiles which can grow up to 25 feet and weigh over a thousand pounds are notorious man eaters.

The largest in captivity is “Lolo” who was caught a few months ago at the mouth of the Agusan River in Agusan Del Norte is over 23 feet long and is suspected of having devoured several fishermen there.

Segovia assured us that none of the man eaters here would be able to escape and that reports of giant crocodiles in New York City’s  underground sewage system that escaped from the City ZOO were figments of some lunatic’s imagination.(By MARK RIMAS)
