Barangay Tanods to get “batuta" and handcuffs

MAASIN CITY – Criminal minded scalawags in the province had better watch out for beginning this March the city’s 533 barangay tanods will be armed with a batuta, handcuffs, pepper sprays and a flashlight.

This information was announced to the members of the Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting by Governor Damian Mercado who requested its members to help fund the forthcoming Tanod Congress scheduled this March 1, 2012 at the city gymnasium.

The city’s 533 Barangay Tanods would each be given a “Tanod Kit” containing a batuta, handcuffs, flashlight and pepper spray.

The Tanod Congress is a joint project of the Provincial Government, DILG, AFP, and the Philippine National Police.(By: ANGELYN BOOK)
