Beauty Beats Brawn

Lucy Torres’s Gomez recent victory over veteran politician Eufrocino Codilla in the congressional race in the 4th District of Leyte proved once again that Filipinos prefer beautify over brawn.

Torres, a popular television host, and the wife of actor Richard Gomez was a last minute replacement for her husband who was disqualified because the Comelec claimed he lacked the residency requirement because his home and business enterprises were in Manila.

Richard endorsed Lucy to run for congress as his substitute even before the commission reached its final decision on his case. Lucy was also in danger of being disqualified because of her husband’s previous case with the Commission. Torres who promised to rid the city of its massive drug problem and improve its tourism potential beat veteran politician Eufrocino Codilla by more than 23,000 votes. She got 94,484 to Codillas 71,719. (By ANGIE BOOK)
