Aquaman swims Limasawa channel

March 18 - 24, 2017

PADRE BURGOS - Raising his fist in triumph, Attorney Ingemar “Pinoy Aquaman” Macarine, successfully conquered the shark-infested waters of Limasawa Island to Padre Burgos town, traversing one of the most turbulent waters in the province, during his 10.34 kilometer open water swim last March 19, to commemorate the coming 496th First Mass Celebration in Limasawa island.

Aside from promoting the First Mass celebration, he also embarked the interisland crossing to underline his advocacy for clean seas, environmental tourism and climate change awareness.

His treacherous swim started 5:45 o’clock early in the morning at Bernardo village, Limasawa town, and ended four hours and thirty four minutes later at Brgy. Tangkaan, Padre Burgos, where he was joyfully welcomed by residents, fans and media reporters.

According to Macarine, the swim was very challenging because of the channels’ strong sea current and rough weather conditions. He even described
his swim as his second most difficult and rigid swim in his 25 open-water swims nationwide.

“My average speed is 3 kilometers per hour, but this swim was very challenging because I was swimming against strong current,” Macarine said to SLT.

“It was such a great feat for Southern Leyte province, as Limasawa’s First Mass
commemoration is fast approaching,” Provincial Tourism Head Nedgar Garvez concluded. (DAHLIA ORIT)
