200M Hospital Looms

BARANGAY COMBADO, MAASIN CITY - The provincial government is pushing through with its plan to relocate the provincial hospital to Barangay Dongon despite criticisms from some residents who claim it is too far away.

But Governor Damian Mercado insists the move was essential because the current hospital was too small and patients were occupying its corridors and any free space they could find.

Critics have assailed the plan because of the new sites distance from the city proper which is about six kilometers from the publacion.
“But which is farther Tacloban, Cebu or Dongon?” Mercado asked apparently referring to emergency cases which had to be brought to these urban centers.

The Governor has been pushing hard for an alternate location for a bigger and more modern provincial hospital since last year because the present site in barangay Mantahan has limited space for expansion.

An abandoned lot origonally meant for a housing subdivision in barangay Dongon eventually became the answer and an initial appropriation of P200 Million had been allocated to start its construction. (BONG PEDALINO - PIA)
